About Umalusi

Umalusi is the Council for Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training.

The organisation is a statutory Quality Council responsible for quality assuring education and training provision within South Africa’s General and Further Education and Training sectors.

The Receptionist will play an important role in creating a professional first impression for visitors, callers and stakeholders who interact with Umalusi.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have one of the following qualifications:

  • National Certificate (Vocational)
  • National Senior Certificate
  • Senior Certificate
  • An equivalent qualification at NQF Level 4

Candidates who meet the minimum educational requirement are encouraged to consider applying if they also possess the required communication, computer and customer-service skills.

Required Skills and Knowledge

Applicants should have:

  • Experience as a call centre agent

  • A customer service or call centre-related qualification

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing reception and administrative support to Umalusi.

Main duties will include:

  • Answering incoming telephone calls
  • Screening and transferring calls to the correct unit or employee
  • Taking and relaying telephone messages
  • Providing information to callers
  • Resolving telephone enquiries where possible
  • Assisting members of the public and stakeholders with enquiries
  • Receiving walk-in visitors and clients
  • Confirming the purpose of visitors’ appointments
  • Contacting relevant employees to receive visitors
  • Receiving mail and parcels
  • Signing for deliveries where required
  • Liaising with the Records Unit regarding parcels
  • Informing relevant employees when parcels are ready for collection
  • Preparing weekly reports
  • Assisting the Housekeeper with printing meeting schedules
  • Ensuring that the reception area remains clean and tidy
  • Providing additional support to the Public Relations and Communications unit when required
