About the Programmes
The Shoprite Retail Readiness Programme (RRP) and Youth Employment Services (YES) Programme 2025 empower South African youth (18–34) with retail skills and work experience. RRP offers 7 weeks of training (5 weeks practical, 2 weeks theory) for an NQF Level 3 qualification. YES provides 12 months of on-the-job training, requiring RRP completion, preparing participants for retail jobs or entrepreneurship.
Programme Purpose
These programmes address South Africa’s 45.5% youth unemployment by equipping unemployed youth with retail skills, NQF Level 3 qualifications, and pathways to employment or business ownership, supporting economic transformation.
Key Responsibilities
RRP:
- Learn customer service, stock management, and cash handling.
- Complete theoretical modules on retail operations.
- Engage in practical training in Shoprite, Checkers, or Usave stores.
YES:
- Work in store departments (e.g., bakery, deli, customer service).
- Develop skills in inventory, merchandising, and business operations.
- Contribute to store efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Eligibility Criteria
RRP:
- South African citizen, aged 18–34.
- Grade 12/Matric or equivalent.
- No prior work experience.
YES:
- Same as RRP, plus RRP qualification.
Required Skills

- Willingness to learn retail operations.
- Adaptability and customer focus.
Preferences
- Employment Equity candidates (e.g., Black, Coloured, Indian).
- Unemployed youth with no retail experience.
- Commitment to completing the full programme.
