About the Massmart Learnership 2026
Massmart is looking for candidates who would like to obtain theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the retail department through their learnership programme. The Massmart Learnership programme is focused on developing strong talent pipelines for its retail stores. As part of this initiative, suitably qualified and unemployed individuals are invited to apply for the 2026 Learnership opportunity.

The programme offers a structured 12-month training experience that provides practical exposure to key operational areas within the organisation, particularly those linked to critical retail skills. Participants are given the opportunity to gain meaningful work experience, explore different career paths, and build professional networks within their chosen field of study.

Throughout the learnership period, candidates are placed at one of Massmart’s Distribution Centres, including Riversands, Gosforth, Waterfall, Northfields, or Brackengate. In these environments, they are exposed to the day-to-day realities of the retail industry and its operational demands. In addition to earning a Certificate in Wholesale and Retail Operations, learners also develop valuable business, personal, and technical retail competencies. These skills are designed to support both current performance and long-term career growth across various roles within the retail sector.

Eligibility Criteria

1. Basic Qualificatons

• Be a South African citizen
• Have completed Matric / Grade 12
• Ensure you have not been permanently employed for more than one continuous year
• Confirm you are not studying full-time during the employment period (August 2025 – July 2026)
• Ensure you are not currently enrolled in or registered on any SETA-funded programme
• Be available and willing to work retail hours under a fixed-term 12-month learnership contract
• Encourage and welcome applications from people with disabilities

• Show a genuine passion for the retail industry
