Department of Trade, Industry and Competition Internship Programme 2026–2028 (24-Month Graduate Internship)

The Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic) has officially opened applications for its Graduate Internship Programme 2026–2028, offering unemployed South African graduates an opportunity to gain valuable workplace experience in government.

This 24-month internship programme will run from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2028 and is designed to help graduates develop professional skills, industry knowledge, and practical experience while preparing for long-term careers in the labour market.

The programme forms part of the department’s commitment to building a dynamic, industrial, and globally competitive South African economy through inclusive growth, decent employment, and skills development.


Internship Stipend

Successful candidates will receive a monthly stipend of R7 860.50, depending on the highest qualification at the time of appointment.

The internship will be based at the dtic campus in:

  • Sunnyside, Pretoria

Fields of Study Eligible for the Internship

Graduates with NQF Level 6 qualifications or higher in the following fields are encouraged to apply:

  1. Public Management / Public Administration
  2. Business Management / Business Administration
  3. Human Resource Management / Human Resource Development
  4. Communication / Public Relations
  5. Law
  6. Software Development
  7. Economics
  8. Statistics / Econometrics
  9. Agricultural Economics / Forestry Science
  10. Development Studies
  11. Accounting / Financial Management / Cost and Management Accounting
  12. Risk Management
  13. Internal Auditing / Auditing
  14. Natural Sciences (Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Bioengineering)
  15. Mining Engineering / Metallurgy Commerce
  16. Occupational Health and Safety
  17. Supply Chain Management / Procurement
  18. International Politics

Key Skills and Competencies Required

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit:

  • completed and signed new Z83 form
  • detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV) including final year modules/subjects completed

Only shortlisted candidates will be required to submit:

  • Certified copy of ID
  • Certified copy of Senior Certificate
  • Certified copy of highest qualification

Applicants with international qualifications must have them evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority.
