What the Role Involves
Successful candidates will help protect lives, property, and the environment by responding to fires and emergency incidents.
Key duties include:
- Responding to fire and emergency situations
- Maintaining and servicing fire equipment
- Conducting fire patrols after hours
- Inspecting dangerous goods in marshalling yards
- Handling hazardous materials (Hazmat)
- Inspecting fire systems and suppression equipment
- Supporting emergency operations during vessel and rail incidents
- Monitoring fire control rooms
- Conducting hot work inspections
- Following safety legislation and Transnet procedures
This role also includes standby duties, inspections of warehouses and cargo sheds, and emergency incident command responsibilities until senior officers arrive.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 12
- Fire Fighter 1 qualification (SAQA/IFSAC accredited)
- Fire Fighter 2 qualification (SAQA/IFSAC accredited)
- Hazmat Awareness qualification
- Hazmat Operational qualification
- First Aid Level 3 or Basic Ambulance Assistant Certificate
- Valid C1 driver’s licence with PrDP
Skills and Competencies Needed
