Job Purpose
The Shop Assistant will be responsible for delivering a welcoming and personalised customer experience while supporting store operations and sales targets.
This role focuses on customer engagement, product promotion, stock management, and maintaining high retail standards within the store.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Service & Sales
- Create a friendly and personalised shopping experience
- Promote loyalty card membership to customers
- Explain promotions, discounts, and product benefits
- Increase basket size through upselling and link selling
- Handle customer questions, complaints, and requests professionally
Store Operations
- Assist with daily stock counts and cycle counts
- Maintain proper stock rotation using FIFO principles
- Ensure shelves and stockroom are clean and organised
- Support replenishment of stock on the sales floor
- Follow all store procedures and policies
Merchandising & Visual Standards
- Maintain visual merchandising standards
- Ensure product displays are neat and attractive
- Implement promotional materials correctly
- Support marketing campaigns and in-store promotions
Cash & Admin Duties
- Follow Point of Sale (POS) procedures
- Adhere to banking and cash handling policies
- Report stock shortages or issues to the supervisor
- Maintain accurate sales and product records where required
Minimum Requirements
To qualify for this position, applicants must have:
- Grade 12 / Matric or equivalent qualification
- At least 1 year of retail experience (advantageous)
- Interest in beauty, skincare, or fragrance products (advantage)
- Basic knowledge of POS systems and Microsoft Office (advantage)
