About the Role

The successful candidates will provide security services in line with the Private Security Industry Regulations Act 56 of 2001.

The main responsibility of the role is to create a safe and secure environment by protecting company assets, property, employees, and customers while preventing criminal activities.

Minimum Requirements

Essential Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • Grade 12 / Matric certificate
  • Grade C PSIRA accreditation
  • PSIRA registration
  • At least 3 years of retail security experience in:
    • Shopping malls
    • Retail stores
    • Warehouses

Advantageous

  • At least 1 year experience in a similar role

Key Responsibilities

Security and Patrol Duties

Security Guards will be required to:

  • Conduct random patrols around the premises
  • Monitor suspicious activities
  • Apprehend violators according to legal procedures
  • Maintain visibility to deter criminal activity
  • Ensure safety of customers and staff

Access Control Responsibilities

The role includes:

  • Monitoring entrance and exit points
  • Controlling pedestrian and vehicle access
  • Searching staff, suppliers, and merchandisers
  • Performing vehicle searches
  • Maintaining access registers and occurrence books

Incident Reporting and Emergency Response

Successful candidates will:

  • Report suspicious incidents immediately
  • Contact emergency services when necessary
  • Monitor alarm systems and CCTV cameras
  • Assist during emergency evacuations
  • Maintain order during crisis situations

Site Protection Duties

Security Guards will also:

  • Ensure doors and windows are locked
  • Monitor water taps and utilities
  • Protect company assets from theft or damage
  • Supervise refuse removal procedures
  • Ensure all security procedures are followed

Administrative Responsibilities

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Completing written incident reports
  • Recording daily activities and unusual occurrences
  • Responding to department communication
  • Assisting with operational security duties

Required Competencies

Essential Skills

Candidates should have:

  • Knowledge of PSIRA regulations
  • Fire emergency and health and safety training
  • Strong English communication skills
  • Ability to respond quickly during emergencies

Advantageous Skills

  • Ability to speak a third language
