NECSA (South African Nuclear Energy Corporation) is offering a learnership programme based for young South African citizens interested in Radiation Protection. The NECSA (South African Nuclear Energy Corporation) Radiation Protection Learnership is a 12-month session that exposes the field of Radiation Protection through the theoretical sessions and practical working programmes.
Upon successful completion of the programme, you will be entitled to an NQF Level 4 qualification in Radiation Protection – provided that you work your best throughout the learnership. Additionally, you will receive the chance to directly work using the NECSA facilities.
You will learn the following modules:
- Assist Radiation Protection Officers (RPOs) in delivering advice on radiological protection, health, safety, and environmental matters to NFMs and their personnel
- Compile radiation protection surveillance results and conventional safety information for reporting to RPOs, while supporting process management to ensure safe nuclear and radiological operations
- Conduct on-the-job safety evaluations of projects, processes, and procedures under RPO supervision to identify, control, and mitigate hazards
- Assist Radiation Protection Officers (RPOs) in providing guidance on radiological protection, health, safety, and environmental matters to NFMs and their personnel
- Report on radiological and conventional safety issues to RPOs and other relevant stakeholders
- Maintain complete and accurate records of radiological and conventional safety aspects within facilities under RPO supervision
- Deliver training to new radiation protection (RP) personnel on all relevant aspects of the work environment under RPO supervision
- Ensure personnel are trained in the proper use of safety equipment, emergency procedures, personal monitoring practices, and incident reporting under RPO supervision.
