
The Gauteng Department of Health is inviting applications for the position of Medical Registrar – Accident and Emergency. This opportunity is based at Sebokeng Hospital and offers a joint academic appointment with the University of Witwatersrand, University of Pretoria, or Sefako Makgatho University.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Grade 12 Certificate.
- MBChB degree or equivalent qualification.
- HPCSA registration as a Medical Officer and current registration (2025/2026) as an Independent Medical Practitioner.
- Successful completion of DipPEC and FCEM Part 1 before short-listing.
- South African citizenship or permanent residency.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in managing medical emergencies.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively under pressure.
Added Advantages:
- Accredited ultrasound training or equivalent courses.
- Research experience.
- Completion of other emergency medicine-related courses.
Key Responsibilities
The appointed Medical Registrar will play a central role in patient care, clinical training, and academic responsibilities. Duties include:
- Providing emergency medical services in line with Department of Emergency Medicine and WITS Emergency Medicine Division (WEMD) guidelines.
- Clinical teaching and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate medical students.
- Patient management: interviewing, diagnosing, investigating, and overseeing treatment.
- Administrative duties, including patient record management.
- Participation in journal clubs, case presentations, ward rounds, and academic meetings.
- Contribution to departmental research and knowledge-sharing.
- Rotations through WEMD circuit hospitals as part of registrar training.
- Upholding collaborative working relationships across departments.
- Signing annual performance agreements and undergoing quarterly reviews.
