Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following qualification and experience requirements:
- Grade 12 or an equivalent qualification with no previous experience required, or
- Grade 10 with at least two years of experience in patient administration.
Applicants must also be computer literate.
Candidates should be able to work under pressure and must be prepared to work:
- Shifts
- Night duty
- Public holidays
- Rotational duties within the department
Knowledge of the following will be important:
- Records Management Policy
- Patient Administration Guidelines
- Public Finance Management Act, or PFMA
- Uniform Patient Fee Schedule, or UPFS
Duties and Responsibilities
Successful Administration Clerks will be responsible for providing administrative support within the hospital’s patient administration environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Carrying out administrative duties according to applicable patient administration and records management guidelines.
- Registering and admitting patients.
- Filing and maintaining patient records.
- Capturing patient information accurately both electronically and manually.
- Ensuring personal information, supporting documentation and patient classifications are correctly recorded.
- Capturing downtime information.
- Compiling PAIA statistics and handling Section 32 administration.
- Compiling private patient files on a spreadsheet.
- Submitting private patient information to the supervisor and finance section every month for billing purposes.
- Performing sub-cashier duties, including the collection of patient fees.
- Responding to telephone enquiries relating to patient administration and records management.
- Following applicable records disposal procedures.
- Complying with requirements and changes introduced by internal and external stakeholders.
- Carrying out additional duties assigned by the supervisor.
- Reporting relevant administrative matters to the supervisor.
