About the Chris Hani District Municipality Job as Security Guard 2026
Chris Hani District Municipality is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates residing within the municipal jurisdiction to participate in a Security Guard Programme under the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP). A total of 300 positions are available on a six-month contract basis.

Sakhisizwe – 18 Positions
Dr A.B. Xuma – 35 Positions
Enoch Mgijima – 86 Positions
Inxuba Yethemba – 75 Positions

Key Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be responsible for maintaining safety and security across municipal facilities and service sites. Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Monitor access to municipal buildings and control the movement of employees, visitors, and authorised personnel
  • Maintain occurrence books and accurately record incidents, observations, and daily security activities
  • Protect municipal assets, infrastructure, equipment, and facilities against theft, damage, or unauthorized access
  • Inspect and search vehicles entering or leaving municipal premises where required
  • Record incoming and outgoing municipal assets and equipment in inventory registers
  • Identify and report potential security threats, risks, and suspicious activities
  • Assist members of the public by directing them to appropriate service points or offices
  • Implement and enforce established municipal security procedures and access-control measures
  • Safeguard critical facilities such as reservoirs, pump stations, sewerage systems, dams, and revenue collection centres
  • Ensure the secure movement of councillors, municipal officials, and visiting delegations.

Job Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Grade 9 qualification
  • Valid PSIRA Certificate
  • Security Guard Qualification or Grade D Security Certificate recognised by the Security Industry Regulatory Authority
  • Police Clearance Certificate
  • Proof of medical fitness issued by a registered medical practitioner
  • Proof of residence certified by a Ward Councillor
  • Between 12 and 18 months of relevant experience in the security, policing, or military environment
  • Ability to work responsibly in protecting public facilities and assets
  • Good observation, communication, and reporting skills.
