Requirements for SAPS Groundsman Vacancies

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Must be a South African citizen.
• Must be able to provide proof of citizenship when required.
• Must have ABET Level 4, Grade 9, Standard 7 certificate/report or an equivalent NQF Level 1 qualification recognised by SAQA.
• Must be able to read and write.
• Must be proficient in at least English and one other official language.
• Must display competency in the core functions of the post.
• Must be willing to work extended hours when necessary.

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies

Applicants should have the following basic knowledge and skills:

• Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
• Good communication skills.
• Ability to interact professionally with other officials.
• Understanding of how to handle cleaning detergents.
• Basic knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety protocols.
• Ability to operate elementary machines and equipment.
• Ability to perform physical tasks related to cleaning, gardening and general maintenance.

Duties and Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness, hygiene and general upkeep in and around SAPS premises. Duties may include:

• Maintaining high levels of hygiene inside and outside SAPS premises.
• Performing routine cleaning tasks.
• Removing refuse bags and keeping work areas clean.
• Maintaining gardens and outdoor areas.
• Loading and unloading goods.
• Washing and cleaning equipment.
• Cleaning state vehicles when required.
• Driving or operating machinery and equipment related to gardening, including tractors and lawn mowers.
