Requirements
Applicants interested in the Security Officer position must have:
- Security Grade C or higher.
- A valid PSIRA certificate.

Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for protecting departmental employees, visitors, buildings, equipment and other assets.
Access Control
The Security Officer will perform access control duties at departmental premises. Responsibilities may include:
- Determining whether visitors have appointments or identifying the services they require.
- Contacting relevant employees to confirm appointments.
- Directing visitors to the correct service delivery points.
- Completing admission control documents and visitor cards.
- Escorting visitors where necessary.
- Operating X-ray machines where applicable.
- Locking and unlocking entrances.
- Identifying suspicious behaviour.
- Preventing unauthorised people or dangerous objects from entering the premises.
- Following up and reporting security incidents.
Building and Premises Patrols
The successful candidate will conduct regular security patrols around the building and premises.
During patrols, the Security Officer may be required to:
- Check whether doors are properly locked or unlocked.
- Identify water leaks and ensure taps are closed.
- Identify fire hazards.
- Report exposed electrical contacts and other safety hazards.
- Switch lights on or off when required.
- Identify suspicious objects or packages.
- Report unusual activities.
Emergency and Safety Procedures
The Security Officer will also be expected to follow departmental emergency procedures during incidents such as:
- Bomb threats.
- Riots or disturbances.
- Fire emergencies.
- Security breaches.
- Other situations that may threaten employees, visitors or government property.
Where necessary, the officer must alert emergency services and departmental security management.
Protection of Government Assets
Another important responsibility will be ensuring that government assets do not enter or leave departmental premises without proper authorisation.
Duties may include:
- Checking that assets leaving the premises have the required pass-out documentation.
- Inspecting vehicles entering and leaving the premises.
- Gathering information regarding missing or stolen equipment.
- Reporting suspected theft or losses.
- Handling documents at entry points according to their classification and applicable security procedures.
All incidents must be properly recorded in the relevant occurrence books or security registers.
