Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have at least Grade 10 and 1–2 years of cleaning experience in a hospital or clinical environment.
Candidates should also meet the following requirements:
- Ability to read, write, and understand simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
- Good communication skills
- Willingness to work shifts, especially night shifts and weekends
- Ability to rotate between different cleaning areas in a clinical environment
- Honesty, reliability, and good work ethic
- Physical strength to cope with the demands of the position
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preference may be given to EPWP trainees, COVID-19 participants, and administrative interns who served or are still serving the Department, in line with Personnel Circular Letter 4 of 2017.
Duties and Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be expected to render cleaning services within the institution. This includes maintaining hygiene and cleanliness in offices, wards, corridors, elevators, bathrooms, toilets, and other hospital areas.
Key duties include:
- Cleaning offices, wards, corridors, elevators, bathrooms, and toilets
- Sweeping, scrubbing, vacuuming, shampooing, and polishing floors
- Dusting, waxing, and cleaning furniture, doors, walls, and windows
- Emptying and cleaning waste bins
- Refilling hand wash liquid soap, toilet paper, hand towels, and refreshers in bathrooms and restrooms
- Reporting broken cleaning machines and equipment after use
- Requesting cleaning materials when needed
- Damp dusting hospital beds, lockers, chairs, cardiac trolleys, suction apparatus, curtain rails, and window sills
- Cleaning file holders, hand wash basins, toilets, bathrooms, sluice rooms, stoops, and dustbins
- Labelling soiled linen rooms where required
- Collecting patient water jugs, washing them, refilling them with clean water, and returning them to patients
- Preparing food trays for patients during mealtimes
- Collecting food trolleys from the kitchen
- Assisting nurses with serving meals in the wards
- Making and serving tea using a food trolley
- Washing cups and saucers after tea time
- Cleaning spills and removing empty boxes from wards
- Monitoring and recording bathroom and basin cleanliness on the provided checklist
- Performing messenger duties in the ward when required
