Job Purpose
The Workshop Assistant supports SGS’s Matrolab/Matrocast operations by maintaining equipment, ensuring workspace cleanliness, and assisting with material handling tasks. This full-time role offers entry-level experience for youth in the testing and certification sector.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform ad-hoc tasks like cleaning, loading trucks, and moving equipment as directed.
- Clean and maintain company equipment, ensuring no consumables (e.g., masking tape, tins) remain post-job.
- Load and off-load trucks as required.
- Report deviations, irregularities, or non-conformances promptly to supervisors.
- Ensure safe and correct storage and handling of equipment.
- Adhere to SGS’s Code of Ethics, Quality Management Systems, and safety standards.
- Cease use of hazardous equipment or environments and address risks.
- Initiate improvement requests for system deviations or non-conformities.

Eligibility Criteria
- South African citizen with a valid ID.
- Grade 12 certificate.
- Proficiency in English or Afrikaans (read, write, speak).
- Basic literacy and penmanship.
- Clear criminal record, verified via background checks.
- No prior experience required, making it ideal for youth.
