About the Job
SANParks seeks two Gate Guards for Addo Elephant National Park to manage access control, assist guests, and maintain gate areas. This entry-level conservation role, reporting to the APU Ranger Sergeant, is ideal for fit, unemployed youth with Matric, offering housing and a unique opportunity to work in nature.
Job Purpose
The role addresses 45.5% youth unemployment by offering stable conservation jobs, supporting SANParks’ mission to protect Addo’s biodiversity and enhance visitor experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct access control, checking credentials and managing traffic.
- Provide detailed park information and resolve minor conflicts.
- Prevent unauthorized removal of park property.
- Open gates for employees, deliveries, contractors, and guests.
- Perform maintenance duties (e.g., mowing lawns, sweeping gate areas).
- Record arrivals and departures of employees and guests.
- Direct guests to various park areas.

Eligibility Criteria
- South African citizen, unemployed.
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- Clear criminal record and valid driver’s license.
- Successful completion of Ranger Fitness Selection Program.
- Willingness to undergo a medical exam.
Required Skills

- Access control and security awareness.
- Basic conservation knowledge.
- Physical fitness and maintenance skills.
Preferences
- Accredited Basic Field Ranger Training.
- Experience in conservation or security/access control.
- Knowledge of conservation legislation.
