Role purpose:
Responsible for providing legal advice on a broad range of regulatory matters in collaboration with Vodacom’s External Affairs and Regulatory Affairs & Public Policy teams.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Provide accurate, effective, and timely legal advice and regulatory analysis on complex Administrative Law and Constitutional Law matters of significant and strategic value to the company to ensure that it complies with all applicable licenses, policies, legislation, regulations, and standards.
- Provide support to the External Affairs and Regulatory Affairs & Public Policy teams through a review and/or settlement of submissions and/or other material correspondence relating to regulatory issues affecting Vodacom arising out of draft and/or current licenses, policies, legislation, regulations, standards and other public documents.
- Support the External Affairs and Regulatory Affairs & Public Policy teams in its stakeholder engagement efforts with a view to shaping South Africa’s public policy and regulatory environment.
- Initiate and/or manage litigation and/or regulatory enquiries relating to a wide range of regulatory issues affecting Vodacom within the communications sector.
- Ensure that all regulatory matters and legal disputes are reported and managed in accordance with company governance requirements and processes, delegation of authority, and Group Code of Conduct.
- Actively participate in the broader Vodafone and Vodacom legal and regulatory community to bring benefit from experience, expertise, and synergies to Vodacom.
- Keep Managing Executive: Legal Affairs and/or Chief Legal Risk and Compliance Officer (as the case may be) informed /involved on major or complex issues
The ideal candidate for this role will have:
- LLB Degree and admitted attorney with a minimum of 8 – 10 years post qualification experience.
- Proven track record in providing Administrative Law and Constitutional Law advice and/or regulatory advice to clients in the ICT sector.
- Prior experience working in regulatory authority, or regulatory practice and/or department within a major law firm or reputable corporate within the ICT sector.
- Fluency in English is mandatory.
- Experience in dealing with regulatory and government authorities.
Knowledge:
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Administrative Law and Constitutional Law in South Africa.
- An in-depth understanding of regulatory issues affecting the communications industry in South Africa, with a deep understanding of the unique legal and regulatory challenges faced by the communications sector.
