About PSIRA

The Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA), headquartered in Centurion, is South Africa’s statutory body responsible for regulating the private security industry under the Private Security Industry Regulation Act of 2001. PSIRA ensures compliance, promotes professional standards, and enhances public safety by overseeing security service providers and personnel across the country.

Program Purpose

The PSIRA YES Internship Programme 2025 is a 12-month initiative under the Youth Empowerment Service (YES) Programme, aimed at reducing youth unemployment. Targeting unemployed South African graduates aged 18–35, the programme offers practical work experience in security regulation, with opportunities in fields like Business Administration, Public Management, and Office Management. Interns receive monthly stipends of R5,000 (NQF 6), R6,000 (NQF 7), or R7,000 (NQF 8), enhancing skills and employability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support administrative tasks, including data capturing and record-keeping for security registrations.
  • Assist in compliance monitoring and verification of security service providers.
  • Contribute to report preparation and correspondence for regulatory processes.
  • Provide customer service to stakeholders, adhering to Batho Pele Principles.
  • Support document management and database updates in line with PSIRA policies.
  • Participate in training and mentorship to develop industry-specific skills.
  • Assist with basic financial tasks, such as invoice processing, as required.

Eligibility Criteria

  • South African citizen with a valid ID, aged 18–35.
  • National Diploma or Degree in Business Administration, Business Management, Public Management, Public Administration, Office Management and Technology, or equivalent from an accredited South African institution.
  • Unemployed at the time of appointment and not enrolled in full-time studies.
  • No prior participation in a YES Programme or other internship programme.
  • Willingness to sign an agreement with PSIRA and the YES Programme.
  • Basic computer literacy (MS Office, email, and database systems).
  • Qualifies as an Employment Equity candidate per PSIRA’s guidelines.

  • Candidates with qualifications in security-related fields.
  • Residents of Centurion, Pretoria, Johannesburg, Western Cape, Polokwane, or Bloemfontein.
