1.Main Job Purpose
To mobilise and create awareness and demand among peers, Peer educators acts as the first point of contact with adolescents and young people in the community. ( Community organisations, community spaces, recreation sports, places of learning, local media, safe spaces) Builds trust, introduces programme and services and provides health education and harm reduction information. Distributes condoms and refers clients to nurses, HTS, and services.
2. Key Performance Areas
| Peer Mobilisation and Outreach Activities | Approach clients first to introduce the programme and the available servicesCreate and identify platforms: Identify community organisations that link and support AGYW, community spaces, recreation spaces and places of learning where the peer educator can interact with AGYWIdentify the places where AGYW congregate and add all the sites to your mapping toolPeer Educator will start building a relationship of friendship and trust in these platforms with clients and groups.Treat all clients with respect and dignity and make all contacts as pleasant and relaxingTake part in stigma and discrimination reduction sensitisations and community dialogues.Refer clients to Nurses, HTS, Linkage Officers, Advocacy officer, and the Social Auxiliary WorkerProvide daily stats to the area coordinatorProvide health education to peers and assess the risk of clients reached.Manage your cohort and ensure they are provided with services they need.Visit your cohort on a regular basis.Distribute harm reduction packs, condoms and lubricant when applicableProvide TB screening information.Link clients to care for ART, TB, STI’s, social supportConduct various administrative chores, as allocated by the Coordinator and AdministratorProvide PrEP choices for all high-risk young women.Keep record and support of Viral load in line with 95-95-95. |

3. Role Requirements
- Matric preferably or equivalent work experience
- Experience working with the ADOLESCENT AND YOUNG PEOPLE PROGRAMME community
- Knowledge of HIV an added advantage
