About Limpopo Department of Social Development

The Limpopo Department of Social Development (DSD) is committed to enhancing quality of life through social welfare, poverty alleviation, and community development across Limpopo’s districts. The Researcher Internship programme provides unemployed graduates with hands-on experience in social development research, supporting initiatives that tackle critical social challenges in Polokwane and surrounding areas.

Position Purpose

The Researcher Internship at Limpopo DSD offers 30 nine-month contract positions for unemployed South African graduates, providing a R7,043.30/month stipend. Interns will be deployed across various district and head offices to conduct fieldwork, collect data, and engage stakeholders, contributing to key social development research initiatives in Limpopo.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct fieldwork to gather data for social development research.
  • Collect, organize, and analyze data to support DSD initiatives.
  • Engage with stakeholders, including communities and organizations, to facilitate research.
  • Prepare reports and presentations on research findings.
  • Collaborate with DSD staff to ensure research aligns with departmental goals.
  • Maintain accurate records of research activities and data.
  • Participate in training and workshops to enhance research skills.

Eligibility Criteria

  • South African citizen, preferably youth (18–35).
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in any field.
  • Unemployed at the time of application.
  • Valid South African ID.
  • Clear criminal record, verified via background checks.
  • Residence in Limpopo or willingness to relocate.

Preferences

  • Candidates from Employment Equity groups (e.g., Black youth, women, persons with disabilities).
  • Degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Statistics, or related fields.
  • Prior experience in research, data collection, or community engagement.
