Essential Conditions
To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Education: ABET / Grade 11 Certificate and Grade ‘C’ PSIRA or an equivalent qualification.
- Experience: 1–2 years of experience in security operations.
- Criminal Record: Must have no criminal records or pending cases.
- Teamwork: Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work irregular hours and shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, due to the nature of the job.
- Vetting: Willingness to undergo a vetting process.
Knowledge and Skills
Candidates must possess:
- Security Legislation: Knowledge of security legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Public Service Regulations: Familiarity with public service regulations, security registers, and Batho Pele principles.
- MISS: Understanding of the Minimum Information Security Standards (MISS).

Key Responsibilities
Security Officers will be responsible for:
- Access Control: Performing access control functions to ensure only authorized personnel enter the premises.
- Visitor Escort: Providing escort services to visitors and contractors within the premises.
- Electronic Searches: Conducting electronic searches of individuals and their baggage using metal detectors and x-ray machines.
- Safety Assurance: Ensuring the safety of staff and visitors within the building and premises.
- Patrolling: Performing general patrolling duties, including the parking area, searching vehicles, and checking security duty points.
- Incident Recording: Recording all incidents in the occurrence book.
- Office Access Requests: Maintaining a register of requests to open offices and reporting patterns to the supervisor.
- Vehicle Access: Ensuring only authorized vehicles access the premises and registering all visitor vehicles.
- Asset Security: Ensuring departmental assets leaving the building are registered and authorized by the relevant sub-directorate.
- Preventing Unauthorized Access: Ensuring unauthorized persons and dangerous objects do not enter the building/premises.
