Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- NQF Level 2 qualification
- Grade 12 / Senior Certificate / Adult Education and Training (AET) will be an added advantage
- Good verbal, reading, and writing skills
- Basic knowledge of water distribution management at government water works
- Basic understanding of Occupational Health and Safety procedures
- Basic knowledge of flood control operations
- Basic knowledge of record keeping
Key Responsibilities
Water Control Aids assist with the daily operation and monitoring of water infrastructure. Key duties include:
- Opening and closing sluice gates according to scheme regulations
- Managing water distribution records and sheets
- Performing minor maintenance on structures, sluices, and fencing
- Clearing blocked pipes and canals
- Removing algae and water grass from canals
- Conducting daily inspections of assigned sections
- Reporting embankment holes, cracks, and defects in canals or structures
- Reporting stagnant water on embankments
- Cleaning canal grids, gauge plates, and surrounding areas
- Painting sluices and long weir sluices
- Ensuring sluice numbers are clearly marked
- Maintaining and securing equipment and storage areas
- Repairing minor washouts and equipment faults
These tasks help ensure safe water distribution and proper dam management.
