Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have a Grade 10, Grade 11, Grade 12 or equivalent qualification. No previous work experience is required, making this opportunity suitable for entry-level applicants.

Candidates should have basic knowledge of gardening, pest control, and general property care processes. Knowledge or experience in gardening and pest control will be an added advantage. Previous EPWP experience will also be beneficial.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Property Caretaker will be responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and attractive hospital environment.

Key duties include picking up litter such as papers, cigarette stumps, and other waste around the premises. The successful candidates will maintain gardens by watering plants, pruning flowers and trees, mowing grass, cultivating soil, removing weeds, and keeping pavements and flower beds clean.

The role also includes clearing dry leaves and weeds from storm water drains and gutters, creating landscaping features to improve the appearance of the hospital environment, and disposing of garden waste at designated collection areas.

Property Caretakers will also be expected to keep garden tools, machines, and equipment clean and in good working condition. Broken equipment must be reported to the supervisor.

Pest control duties may include spraying or applying approved chemical solutions, powders, or gases in rooms, wards, departments, clothing areas, furnishings, wood surfaces, catch-basins, ditches, and other affected locations. The successful candidates may also set traps, place bait in sewers and burrows, inspect premises for pest infestations, and remove dead rodents or animals around the institution.
