Position Purpose
The AFGRI Apprenticeship Programme 2025 is a 3-year in-service training opportunity for South African matriculants in Gauteng to gain hands-on experience and qualify as Tractor Mechanics or Earthmoving Mechanics. With fully funded training, including John Deere product courses and AgriSETA certification, apprentices will develop technical expertise and workplace skills.
Available Apprenticeship Roles
- Tractor Mechanic: Training in repair and maintenance of agricultural tractors.
- Earthmoving Mechanic: Skills for servicing earthmoving equipment in agricultural settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Repair and maintain agricultural and earthmoving machinery under supervision.
- Gain product-specific knowledge, including John Deere systems and technology.
- Assist in stock control and parts management in the workshop.
- Provide basic customer service to clients in a workshop environment.
- Support daily operations and perform general workplace duties.
- Complete theoretical and practical training, including distance learning modules.

Eligibility Criteria
- South African citizen, eligible to work in South Africa.
- Recent Matric Certificate (2024) or N2 Certificate.
- Matric subjects (minimum 40% or E-symbol): Mathematics (not Literacy), Technical Mathematics, Physical Science, Technical Science, or Engineering Graphics and Design; OR N2 subjects: Mathematics, Engineering Science, Diesel Trade Theory, plus one of Industrial Electronics, Engineering/Technical Drawing, or Motor Trade Theory.
- Valid South African driver’s license.
- Basic computer, administrative, and communication skills.
- No prior work experience required.
- Clear criminal record, verified via background checks.

- Candidates from Employment Equity groups (e.g., Black, Coloured, Indian, women, persons with disabilities).
- Passion for technical careers in agricultural engineering.
- Strong motivation and self-discipline to complete a 3-year programme.
- Residence in or near Gauteng (e.g., Centurion, Bethal, Middelburg, Boksburg).
- Willingness to attend Saturday classes or distance learning as required.
