The Cape Fertility Clinic proudly offers an exceptional Egg Donation Program, boasting a remarkable 76.4% pregnancy rate in recent cycles. Our program, supported by cutting-edge technology and a dedicated team, provides a beacon of hope for women who require egg donation to achieve their dreams of becoming mothers. With a history rooted in successful fertility treatments since 1986, Cape Fertility continues to lead the way in reproductive health in South Africa.
Egg donation is a process often recommended when a woman’s eggs are of poor quality, or other fertility issues are present. At Cape Fertility, our egg donation program is a routine procedure, comparable to IVF and ICSI. Our success rate ranges between 60-70% per cycle, making it one of the most reliable options available.

Who Needs Egg Donation?
Egg donation is often recommended for:
The process begins with obtaining eggs from a healthy young donor, fertilizing them, and then transferring the fertilized embryo into the recipient’s uterus. The success of this procedure largely depends on the age and health of the egg donor, rather than the age of the recipient, ensuring a high pregnancy rate for our patients.
Finding an Egg Donor
At Cape Fertility, we work with trusted agencies that adhere to SASREG ethical guidelines. These agencies provide a comprehensive list of potential donors. Additionally, Cape Fertility offers its own egg donation program with options for both fresh and frozen eggs.
For assistance in finding a donor, please contact Dawn Blank at dawn@capefertility.co.za.
Before starting the program, recipients must complete a medical questionnaire and provide recent test results. These tests help us evaluate the recipient’s health and ensure the best possible outcome.

Medications Required Prior to Your Appointment:
Medications can be obtained from our clinic, your local doctor, or ordered internationally if you reside outside Africa. Progesterone injections or tablets are provided during your first appointment in Cape Town.
Your first visit to the doctor will be scheduled 2-4 days before the donor’s egg collection. During this visit, a painless vaginal ultrasound scan will be performed to assess the thickness of the endometrium. Any necessary adjustments to medication will be made at this time, and informed consent will be obtained.
You will need to stay in Cape Town for approximately 12 days to complete the treatment.
Who are the Egg Donors?
Our egg donors are healthy women under the age of 35. Although egg donation is anonymous in South Africa, you will receive a detailed profile of the donor, including physical characteristics, medical history, education, and hobbies.
Legal and Medical Screening
Egg donation is regulated by the National Health Act of 2004, ensuring that all procedures are legal and ethically conducted. Donors undergo thorough medical examinations and psychological assessments before their donation.
Treatment
Donors receive fertility injections for 10-12 days to stimulate egg production, followed by a minimally invasive egg retrieval procedure under ultrasound guidance.
After fertilization, 1 or 2 embryos are transferred to the recipient’s womb, with the option to freeze any remaining embryos for future use. This procedure is similar to a routine gynecological examination and requires only a brief period of rest afterward.
Pregnancy Test
A blood test for the pregnancy hormone (HCG) will be conducted 14 days after the egg retrieval. This test can be performed at the Cape Fertility Clinic or at home, depending on your location.
Cape Town is not only a world-renowned holiday destination but also a hub for top-tier medical treatment. Cape Fertility’s success rates are comparable to the best clinics worldwide, offering you both the highest standards of care and the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of Cape Town.
Cape Fertility can provide a list of recommended accommodations for your stay in Cape Town. Our staff is fluent in English, IsiXhosa, Afrikaans, French, and Dutch, ensuring a comfortable and supportive experience for all our patients.
