Role Overview

The Earthmoving Equipment Mechanic Learnership equips learners with hands-on experience in maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing heavy earthmoving machinery, such as Cat® excavators and bulldozers. Based in Isando and Rustenburg, participants will work under experienced technicians, completing theoretical and practical training to earn a recognized qualification.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete theoretical studies, practical training, and skills assessments to meet programme standards.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair earthmoving equipment, conducting basic diagnostics on heavy machinery.
  • Document experience via logbooks, skills records, and training reports for accurate progress tracking.
  • Ensure a safe working environment by adhering to Barloworld’s safety policies and procedures.
  • Uphold high standards of workplace cleanliness and organization (housekeeping).
  • Follow safety and quality standards, reporting deviations or system improvements.
  • Demonstrate effective communication, positive behavior, and teamwork to foster collaboration.
  • Meet Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and personal balanced scorecard objectives.
  • Provide accurate reports on completed tasks to support operational efficiency.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Education:
    • Grade 12 or N3 with Pure Mathematics and Physical Science (minimum 50% in each).

  • Certifications: Technician for the World (T4W) certificate required before the start date (advantageous).
  • Skills & Competencies:
    • Computer literacy (advantageous for documentation and diagnostics).
