The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), through Western TVET College, is inviting applications for two permanent Cleaner vacancies at its Carletonville and Krugersdorp West campuses.

These entry-level government vacancies offer a salary of R144 024 per annum, plus benefits, and applicants only need Grade 10 or ABET Level 4 to meet the minimum educational requirement.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have Grade 10 or ABET Level 4.

Candidates should also have basic knowledge of cleaning and maintenance procedures, workplace safety requirements and the use of basic hand tools.

Applicants should have basic numeracy and literacy skills and must be able to read operating instructions and workplace notices.

The successful candidates should be committed, hardworking and willing to work long hours when required. They must also be able to work under pressure and have good interpersonal and verbal communication skills.

Knowledge of repetitive cleaning tasks, hygiene and facilities policies, as well as relevant legislation, prescripts, policies and procedures, will be important for the position.

Duties and Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be responsible for maintaining a clean, hygienic and safe environment at the relevant Western TVET College campus.

Duties will include:

  • Dusting and waxing office furniture
  • Sweeping, scrubbing and waxing floors
  • Cleaning walls, windows and floors
  • Collecting and removing waste paper
  • Freshening office areas
  • Cleaning campus kitchens and basins
  • Washing and packing kitchen utensils
  • Emptying and washing waste bins
  • Taking recyclable materials to the appropriate disposal area
  • Cleaning ablution facilities
  • Cleaning foyers and corridors
  • Carrying out other general cleaning duties as required

Documents Required

Every application must include a signed and fully completed new Z83 application form and a comprehensive CV containing at least three contactable references.

The new Z83 form can be obtained from any Public Service department or from the DPSA website.

Applicants should make sure the Z83 form is completed in full. Incomplete Z83 forms will result in disqualification.

Certified copies of qualifications and other supporting documents do not need to be submitted with the initial application.

Only shortlisted candidates will be required to provide certified copies of original documents, academic records or transcripts and other relevant supporting documents on or before the interview date following communication from the Human Resources Office.

Candidates with foreign qualifications must provide a SAQA evaluation report when required.

Selection and Verification Process

Shortlisted candidates may be required to complete pre-entry assessments, including a practical assessment to determine suitability for the technical and generic requirements of the position and an integrity or ethical conduct assessment.

Successful candidates will also be subjected to verification and vetting processes, which may include criminal record checks, citizenship verification, qualification verification, employment verification and financial disclosure requirements where applicable.
