About the Room Attendant Position
As a Room Attendant, your main responsibility will be to make sure guest accommodation and public areas remain clean, neat, and ready for visitors. You will help maintain the high standards that SANParks expects across its tourism facilities.
Guests visit Agulhas National Park to enjoy nature and relax. Your work will help create a pleasant experience for every visitor by ensuring rooms and shared spaces are always clean and well maintained.
This position requires someone who is hardworking, reliable, physically fit, and able to work with little supervision while following workplace safety rules.
Minimum Requirements

- Grade 12 (Matric), NCV Level 4, or an equivalent qualification.
- Between 1 and 2 years of practical work experience in public cleaning, housekeeping, or a tourism environment.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic knowledge of workplace health and safety.
- Understanding of how to safely use cleaning equipment and cleaning products.
- Basic customer service skills to communicate politely with guests.
- Ability to perform physical duties such as lifting, bending, walking, and standing for long periods.
- Willingness to work weekends, public holidays, and different shifts when required.
- First Aid knowledge will be an added advantage but is not compulsory.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
The successful Room Attendant will be responsible for a wide range of housekeeping and cleaning duties throughout the park.
Some of the daily responsibilities include:
Cleaning Guest Accommodation
You will clean chalets and guest rooms by:
- Changing bed linen.
- Sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors.
- Polishing furniture.
- Emptying bins and removing waste.
- Keeping rooms neat and ready for new guests.
Cleaning Public Areas
You will also clean shared areas such as:
- Reception areas.
- Public restrooms.
- Walkways.
- Other guest facilities.
If you notice broken equipment, damaged furniture, spillages, or any other problems, you must report them to your supervisor immediately.
Managing Cleaning Supplies
Part of your duties will include monitoring stock levels of:
- Guest amenities.
- Linen.
- Cleaning materials.
- Housekeeping supplies.
This helps ensure there are always enough supplies available for daily operations.
Reporting Maintenance Problems
If you notice anything that needs repairs, such as broken furniture, leaking taps, damaged equipment, or faulty electrical items, you must report it according to SANParks procedures.
Assisting Guests
Although this is mainly a cleaning role, you will also interact with visitors. You should:
- Be friendly and respectful.
- Respond to guests politely.
- Help with basic requests within your responsibilities.
- Maintain professional customer service at all times.
Providing excellent service helps create a positive experience for everyone visiting the park.
Laundry Duties
The Room Attendant will also assist with laundry by:
- Collecting dirty linen.
- Sorting linen.
- Packing and storing linen correctly.
- Following the correct laundry procedures.
Following Health and Safety Rules
You must always follow workplace safety procedures by:
- Wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Handling cleaning chemicals safely.
- Following hygiene standards.
- Keeping cleaning materials under control.
- Maintaining high cleanliness standards throughout the park.
Accommodation Information

The successful candidate must arrange and pay for their own accommodation because there is no official staff housing available at Agulhas National Park.
