Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Grade 10 or an NQF Level 2 qualification.
- Previous exposure to a food service environment.
- At least one year of work experience in a food service environment will be advantageous.
- Experience in large-scale cooking will also be an advantage.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Successful candidates will perform routine duties within the hospital’s Food Service Unit. Responsibilities will include:
- Operating food service machinery and kitchen equipment.
- Preparing normal and special diet meals for hospital patients.
- Assisting with the preparation and decoration of meals for official functions.
- Dishing patient meals according to prescribed guidelines and dietary requirements.
- Washing pots, pans, crockery, cutlery and kitchen utensils.
- Cleaning kitchen floors, drains, grids, equipment and work surfaces.
- Cleaning fridges, freezers, storerooms and other food storage areas.
- Unpacking and packing food supplies into fridges, freezers and storerooms.
- Removing waste and dustbins from the kitchen.
- Cleaning and sanitising waste bins.
- Maintaining food hygiene, health and safety standards.
- Following all policies and guidelines regulating hospital food services.
- Rotating between different duties and working as a reliever when required.
- Working across two different shifts according to the unit’s operational requirements.
