About the Unilever Automated Packaging Learnership 2026-2027
The Unilever Automated Packaging Learnership is a full-time, onsite programme designed to train learners in operating automated packaging lines while upholding safety, quality, and productivity standards. Participants will gain practical exposure at the Maydon Wharf Factory in Durban and will be guided by the Shift Coordinator.

Throughout the programme, learners will be equipped to manage packaging equipment, develop mechanical awareness, understand production workflows, and apply effective communication practices for line coordination.
Key Responsibilities
- Support sustainability initiatives and contribute to an environmentally efficient workplace
- Perform cleaning tasks on machinery as instructed by manufacturers and factory procedures
- Monitor packaging and product quality in accordance with prescribed specifications and promptly communicate deviations
- Execute general line operations and housekeeping duties aligned with daily plans
- Conduct equipment start-up checks to ensure the work area meets cleanliness and safety standards
- Complete all learnership requirements such as assessments, logbooks, and related assignments
- Maintain safe practices for both individual and team activities on the production line
- Identify process abnormalities and take immediate corrective actions to minimize disruptions
- Prepare and inspect raw materials before production.
Learnership Requirements
- A National Senior Certificate (Matric) with passes in Mathematics and Science or an N2/N3/N4 Engineering qualification
- Ability to demonstrate resilience, responsibility, and strong personal initiative
- Willingness to prioritize tasks effectively and focus on high-impact activities
- Capability to interpret data, identify challenges early, and propose improved ways of working
- Customer- and consumer-oriented mindset with an interest in continuous improvement.
