About the SANParks (South African National Parks) Job Vacancy as General Worker 2026
SANParks (South African National Parks) is currently opening up positions a General Workers at the Golden Gate Highlands National Park: Gladstone Section. The SANParks (South African National Parks) Job Vacancy as General Worker requires you to perform the following responsibilities:
- Help identify and report any horse-related health issues to the Stable Supervisors or Horse Handler
- Support vaccination, feeding, grooming, and general medical care of the horses when required
- Carry out routine maintenance at the stables, including caring for the grounds, tending to gardens, keeping paddocks clean, and cutting or clearing grass around the stables and office areas
- Make sure all riding equipment—such as saddles and bridles—is properly cleaned and well maintained
- Provide assistance to other stable staff during visitor outrides when necessary
- Help with the installation and upkeep of fences
- Assist in wildfire suppression efforts, prescribed burning activities, and the creation of firebreaks
- Contribute to soil erosion control and the management of invasive plant species
- Take part in maintaining infrastructure, including buildings, hiking paths, and signage
- Ensure that strong Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) practices are consistently followed.

1. Basic Qualifications
- Provide a Grade 12 certificate (Std 10) or an equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification
- Demonstrate proficiency in English (speaking, reading, and writing) and show ability in at least one additional language
- Meet the physical fitness requirements, noting that a fitness test will be administered
- Submit proof of your chainsaw and brushcutter experience by attaching the relevant certificate or competency document
- Show experience in horse riding, working in a stable environment, and saddling horses
2. Advantageous Qualities
- Demonstrate experience in nature conservation activities, including invasive plant removal, integrated fire management, wildfire suppression, establishing firebreaks, and conducting prescribed burns
- Provide a valid Basic Firefighting Certificate
- Show understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act)
- Display knowledge of the relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards within the field
- Submit a certificate in Basic First Aid
