About the Wash Bay Assistant Role
As a Wash Bay Assistant, you will play a key role in maintaining the safety and cleanliness of hoses, equipment, and berths. Your main job is to ensure that all operational areas are ready, clean, and functioning properly to support the smooth loading and offloading of vessels.
This position is shift-based, so you must be ready to work according to Bidvest Tank Terminals’ operational requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Your daily tasks will include:
- Following all BTT policies and procedures, including SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality).
- Planning and carrying out the washing and pressure testing of hoses.
- Preparing equipment needed for hose trailers at the berth.
- Inspecting berth lines and shipping equipment (hoses, fittings, pig catchers) and reporting any defects.
- Assisting the Wash Bay Controller, Team Leader, or Supervisor with tasks as directed.
- Keeping wash bays, berths, and hose storage areas clean and tidy.
- Connecting and disconnecting shipping hoses for loading and offloading vessels.
- Assisting with cleaning separators, bund floors, and general housekeeping.
- Performing laboring activities such as carrying hoses, inserting or removing pigs, and other site tasks as instructed.
What Bidvest Is Looking For
To succeed in this role, you should have the following:
Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 12 or equivalent qualification (Maths and Science preferred).
- ABET Level 1 proficiency (assessment required).
- Completion of BTT Operator Level 5 training.
- At least 2 years of operational experience at BTT or in a similar environment.
Skills and Competencies:
- Willingness to work shifts as required by operations.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of pumps, valves, and operational procedures.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Physical fitness and ability to perform demanding tasks.
