The Office of the Chief Justice (OCJ) invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for a Typist position based at the North West Division of the High Court in Mmabatho. This opportunity is ideal for individuals with strong typing, administrative, and court-related skills who are seeking employment within the South African public service.

Job Title: Typist (North West)

Salary: R193 359 – R227 766 per annum (Level 04)
Centre: North West Division of the High Court, Mmabatho

The successful candidate will be required to sign a performance agreement.


Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric) certificate
  • No prior work experience required
  • Typing speed of at least 35 words per minute
  • Computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Office
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to work accurately with attention to detail
  • Good planning, organisational, and time-management skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of telephone etiquette

Knowledge and Competencies

  • Legal terminology and court procedures
  • Court rules, filing systems, and counter services
  • Understanding of Public Service legislation, including Batho Pele Principles and Public Service Regulations (PSR)
  • Problem-solving skills and professional conduct

All shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a pre-entry practical exercise to assess technical and generic competencies relevant to the post.


Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Typing court orders, judgments, court documents, and reports
  • Typing appeals, reviews, memorandums, minutes, circulars, and notices of set down
  • Preparing witness statements and Taxing Master reports
  • Typing Rule 6(12) orders and ensuring availability in line with court rules
  • Making amendments to judgments as instructed by judges
  • Compiling and maintaining court rolls, including term rolls, week rolls, opposed and unopposed motion rolls
  • Drafting court term rolls in accordance with gazetted court terms
  • Typing supplementary rolls
  • Sorting and distributing incoming and outgoing files
  • Maintaining registers and ensuring proper record-keeping
  • Submitting relevant court orders and judgments to stakeholders
  • Sending judgments to the typing unit and ensuring correct formatting for reporting to SAFLII
