About the Programme
Transnet Freight Rail (TFR) invites energetic, motivated, and unemployed South African graduates (between 18 and 35 years) to apply for its Young Professional in Training Programme for 2025/2026. This programme offers a structured, mentored, and rotational experience over two years. Participants will gain both institutional knowledge and practical on-the-job training. Every six months, candidates’ progress will be evaluated to ensure alignment with expectations from both the candidate and TFR.
By the end of the programme, you will have built real work experience, expanded your professional network, and elevated your employability in multiple functional areas within TFR.

Key Responsibilities & What You’ll Do
While each stream has its own responsibilities, all participants will:
- Engage in on-the-job training in their respective functional areas under supervision.
- Rotate through different subunits (if applicable) to gain exposure to multiple facets of the business.
- Contribute to projects, reports, and deliverables aligned with departmental goals.
- Participate in formal training, workshops, and mentorship programs.
- Be assessed every six months to measure performance, growth, and fit within TFR’s structure.
- Work closely with senior management and mentors to reflect on progress and set development objectives.
- Your work output will support TFR’s operations in freight, logistics, supply chain, engineering, safety, legal or other core rail functions, depending on your stream.
Eligibility & Requirements
To be eligible to apply, candidates must:
- Be a South African citizen.
- Be between the ages of 18 and 35 at the time of application.
- Be unemployed and not currently in full-time employment.
- Hold the relevant qualification (degree or diploma) in one of the listed functional areas.
- Demonstrate strong academic performance (transcripts may be required).
- Exhibit strong communication, analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Be open to working in Pretoria (or relocated as needed).
- Show readiness to commit to the 24-month programme, participate fully in training, rotations, and evaluations.

5. Shortlisting & Interviews
Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. If you don’t hear back within a few weeks after the closing date, please assume your application was unsuccessful.
