This dynamic initiative is designed for aspiring artisans who want to build sustainable careers in critical trades such as Welding, Rigging, Boilermaking, and Occupational Health & Safety.
This partnership between a reputable training institution and an industry-experienced engineering firm ensures learners receive practical, industry-aligned training that meets the standards of the Manufacturing, Engineering and Related Services Sector Education and Training Authority (MERSETA). The goal? To produce competent, job-ready artisans who are prepared to meet the growing demand in South Africa’s infrastructure and engineering sectors.
What the Programme Offers
The Artisan Learnership Programme is a structured, full-time training initiative that blends theory and hands-on experience. Learners selected for this programme will receive:
- Nationally accredited training aligned with NQF levels
- Workplace-based learning at J & C Engineering sites
- A monthly stipend
- Mentorship from seasoned industry professionals
- A certificate of competence upon successful completion
Each specialization offers unique career paths:
- Welding Learnership: Learn to fabricate and fuse metal parts for construction, shipbuilding, automotive, and pipeline projects.
- Rigging Learnership: Acquire the skills to move heavy equipment safely—essential for mining, construction, and shipping.
- Boilermaking Learnership: Master the fabrication of steel structures like tanks, pressure vessels, and piping systems.
- Safety Officer Learnership: Gain expertise in workplace health and safety standards to prevent injuries and promote compliance.
Who Should Apply?
This programme targets unemployed youth and school leavers who are passionate about technical trades and are committed to completing a rigorous 12-month training journey. Applicants must:
- Be between the ages of 18–35
- Have Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent
- Possess basic technical aptitude
- Be willing to commit to full-time training
Female applicants and individuals with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply, in line with national employment equity objectives.

- Grade 12 with Maths Level 4, Physical Science Level 5 and English Level 4
- N3 or any higher qualification
