Purpose of the Role

The Data Capturer will be responsible for capturing, verifying, and maintaining accurate clinical and programme data from facilities, mobile units, and outreach teams. The role ensures data integrity, confidentiality, and compliance with research and public health standards.


Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Capture quantitative and qualitative clinical data into databases and spreadsheets
  • Maintain electronic databases and ensure data accuracy, completeness, and consistency
  • Verify data by cross-checking paper forms with electronic records
  • Conduct daily data quality checks and follow up on discrepancies
  • Perform quality control (QC) on study forms and calculate error rates
  • Assist with data back-filling for studies and programmes
  • Prepare and update data collection forms and materials
  • Conduct regular data mop-ups and populate reports
  • File and securely store paper records in compliance with the POPI Act
  • Perform regular database backups to centralised servers
  • Ensure databases are encrypted, password-protected, and access-controlled
  • Maintain a reliable paper trail for all captured data
  • Verify monthly totals using paper reporting tools
  • Label and coordinate shipment of study samples to NHLS/NICD
  • Respond to programme and study-related data queries
  • Liaise with relevant staff to ensure data verification and integrity

Minimum Requirements

Education

  • Grade 12 (Matric)

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in data capturing, reporting, and database maintenance

Knowledge & Compliance

  • Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
  • Data privacy and confidentiality (human subjects research)
  • Familiarity with the public health sector and Tier.Net

Language

  • Proficiency in English
  • Ability to communicate in isiZulu and isiXhosa (or another local language)
