About SETA

Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs) are government bodies established under the Skills Development Act of 1998 to promote skills development across South Africa’s industries. With 21 SETAs covering sectors like retail, IT, construction, and health, SETAs fund learnerships, internships, and skills programmes to bridge the gap between education and employment. Position Purpose

The 2025 SETA Learnership Programme offers unemployed South African youth a chance to gain practical work experience and a National Qualifications Framework (NQF) qualification in high-demand sectors. Delivered through SETA-accredited providers, learnerships combine theoretical training with workplace practice, preparing participants for careers in industries like retail, IT, logistics, and construction. With a monthly stipend (approximately R2,000–R4,000), this programme supports youth development and aligns with national skills priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Eligibility Criteria

  • South African citizen with a valid ID, aged 18–35.
  • Grade 12 certificate (Matric or National Senior Certificate).
  • Unemployed and not currently enrolled in another learnership or full-time study.
  • Clear criminal record, verified through background checks.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Interest in pursuing a career in a SETA-supported sector (e.g., retail, IT, construction).
  • Willingness to commit to a 12–24-month programme, including workplace training.

Preferences

  • Candidates with basic computer literacy or sector-specific skills (e.g., retail experience).
  • Proficiency in a second language (e.g., isiZulu, Afrikaans).
  • Candidates from designated Employment Equity groups (Coloureds, Indians, Whites, persons with disabilities).
  • Residence in areas with SETA-accredited training providers or host employers.
