South African National Parks (SANParks), in partnership with the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI), invites suitably qualified applicants to apply for the CATHSSETA Internship Programme Vacancies (20+ Posts). The closing date for applications is 06 March 2026. This 12-month internship opportunity is aimed at young graduates who are currently unemployed and looking for real workplace exposure in a respected public institution.

This programme offers graduates a chance to gain practical experience while earning a monthly stipend ranging from R6 335.69 to R9 088.37, depending on their qualification level.


About the SANParks and SANBI Internship Programme

The SANParks CATHSSETA Internship Programme is a structured work placement designed to help graduates bridge the gap between studying and working. Interns are placed for 12 months at SANParks or SANBI, where they gain hands-on experience related to their field of study.

It is important to note that this is a skills development programme, not a permanent job. SANParks is under no obligation to offer employment after the internship ends. However, the experience gained can greatly improve future job prospects.


Internship Location

Most internship placements will be based at:

  • Groenkloof National Park (SANParks Head Office)
  • SANBI Pretoria

Who Can Apply for This Internship

To qualify for this internship programme, applicants must meet all the requirements listed below.

Basic Eligibility Requirements

You must:

  • Be unemployed
  • Be between 18 and 35 years old
  • Be a South African citizen
  • Have completed a National Diploma, Bachelor’s Degree, or Honours Degree (NQF Level 6, 7, or 8)
  • Have studied at a South African public Higher Education Institution (HEI)
  • Not have worked before and not have participated in any internship or placement programme in the public or private sector

This programme is strictly for first-time interns.

Monthly Stipend Offered

Interns accepted into the programme will receive a monthly stipend based on their qualification level:

  • R6 335.69 per month for lower NQF levels
  • Up to R9 088.37 per month for higher qualifications
