The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has officially opened applications for the Military Skills Development System (MSDS) 2027 Intake.

What is the SANDF MSDS Programme?

The Military Skills Development System (MSDS) is a structured programme offered by the SANDF. During the first year, recruits undergo:

  • Basic military training
  • Functional and specialised training within their specific service division

In the second year, successful members are deployed to various units where they gain practical experience, leadership skills, and professional discipline.

SANDF MSDS 2027 Requirements

To qualify, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • RSA Citizen (No dual citizenship)
  • 18–22 years old (Grade 12 applicants)
  • 18–26 years old (3-year Tertiary Qualification)
  • Meet the required APS score (excluding Life Orientation)
  • Mathematics & Physical Science required for specialised musterings (e.g., engineering fields)
  • No criminal record or pending cases
  • Must comply with medical fitness standards (includes drug testing and psychometric evaluation)
  • No visible tattoos when wearing uniform

Applicants must submit:

  • Certified copy of ID
  • Certified copy of Matric Certificate (only 2025 results accepted)
  • Tertiary qualification documents (if applicable)
