ABOUT SACAA ICT

The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) is an agency of the Department of Transport (DoT), established on 01 October 1998, following the enactment of the now repealed South African Civil Aviation Authority Act, 1998 (Act No. 40 of 1998). This Act was replaced by the Civil Aviation Act, 2009 (Act No. 13 of 2009), which came into effect on 31 March 2010.

The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) is offering an exciting 12-month ICT Internship Programme based in Midrand. Internship Details

Available Internship Areas & Key Responsibilities

1. Database Administration (x2 positions)

• Troubleshoot database issues under supervision.
• Monitor and maintain database performance.
• Develop scripts to automate routine database tasks.
• Generate reports from databases as required.
• Collaborate with the Database Systems Engineer and IT teams.
• Apply database management principles in real-world scenarios.

2. Application Support (x1 position)

• Respond to and resolve application-related issues via the helpdesk system.
• Diagnose problems and escalate complex issues to specialists.
• Ensure timely updates and communication with users.
• Monitor application performance and availability.
• Assist users with application functionality and troubleshooting.
• Provide training and documentation for effective application use.
• Assist with deploying new application versions and updates.
• Ensure data consistency and integrity within applications.

3. IT Support

• Provide basic IT support, including network assistance and user support.
• Participate in learning and documentation efforts.

Requirements

Education:

• Diploma or Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Desired Knowledge and Skills:

• Basic understanding of relational databases (e.g., MS SQL).
• Knowledge of SQL queries and database operations.
• Familiarity with database management tools (e.g., SQL Server Management Studio – SSMS).
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Awareness of cloud database environments (e.g., Azure).

Additional Information

• All SACAA appointments are subject to Section 98 of the Civil Aviation Act, 13 of 2009, and successful candidates will undergo security vetting.
