The Eastern Cape Department of Transport is inviting applications for Road Worker Jobs: Transport Infrastructure Maintenance (Level 3) positions. A total of six (6) vacancies are available across Alfred Nzo and Amathole districts.

Job Locations

Vacancies are available at:

  • Alfred Nzo Maintenance (Ref: DOT 59/02/2026) – 3 Posts
  • Amathole Transport Infrastructure (Ref: DOT 60/02/2026) – 3 Posts

Both districts are located in the Eastern Cape.


Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this Road Worker position, applicants must have:

  • ABET Level 2
  • Valid Code 10 Driver’s Licence
  • Ability to read and write
  • Good communication skills
  • Self-management ability
  • Must be medically fit and physically healthy
  • Willingness to work after hours when required

No prior experience is required, but exposure to road maintenance or construction environments will be an added advantage.


Key Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be responsible for maintaining transport infrastructure, including:

  • Bush clearing and vegetation control
  • Culvert installation and cleaning
  • Road marking and pothole patching
  • Installation of road signs, guardrails, kilometre markers, and fences
  • Gravel and surfaced road maintenance
  • Loading and off-loading materials
  • Concrete work and steel fixing
  • Digging trenches and cleaning drains
  • Gabion installation and erosion control
  • Cleaning machinery, workshops, and tools

This role involves physical labour and outdoor work in various weather conditions.
