Oudtshoorn Municipality is calling on qualified and committed individuals to apply for 16 Temporary Firefighter positions within its Fire and Emergency Services Department. This is your chance to serve the community of Oudtshoorn while gaining valuable experience in emergency response.

Location: Oudtshoorn, Western Cape, South Africa
Salary: R5,555.10 per month
Minimum Qualifications
- Grade 12 certificate (attach proof)
- At least 1 year of operational firefighting experience
- Valid Code C1 driver’s licence (advantageous)
- Firefighter 1 – NFPA 1001 Certification (attach proof)
- Hazmat Awareness – NFPA 472 Certification (attach proof)
- Valid First Aid Level 3 Certification (attach proof)
Additional Requirements
- Physically and mentally fit (submit medical note)
- Compliant with NFPA 1582 medical test standards (submit medical note)
- Clean criminal record
- No fear of heights or claustrophobia
- Good communication skills
- Proficiency in at least two of the three official Western Cape languages
Physical Fitness Tests
Applicants must successfully complete these fitness tests:
- 2.4 km run
- Push-ups and sit-ups
- Hose drags
- Drum carry
- High test
- Claustrophobic test
- Swimming test
Key Responsibilities
- Provide firefighting, emergency, and rescue services
- Take part in fire prevention inspections and awareness programmes
- Maintain and clean fire stations, vehicles, and equipment
- Attend training, drills, and physical exercises regularly
- Complete administrative duties like incident reports and logbooks
- Inspect firefighting and rescue equipment daily
- Perform standby and overtime duties as required
- Work in shifts and be available for short-notice overtime
- Assist with compiling emergency reports
