About the Cleaner Role at NECSA

The Cleaner (Internal/External) position at NECSA focuses on ensuring good housekeeping across the NECSA site. This includes offices, buildings, and designated areas. Your work will help maintain cleanliness, safety, and order in line with NECSA standards and SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment and Quality) requirements.

Cleanliness plays a very important role in creating a safe and productive workplace. As a Cleaner, you will support employees, visitors, and contractors by ensuring that all areas are clean, hygienic, and well cared for at all times.


Purpose of the NECSA Cleaner Position

The main purpose of this role is to deliver professional cleaning services that meet NECSA’s safety and quality standards. You will be responsible for daily cleaning tasks, deep cleaning projects, and supporting worker safety by following proper procedures and reporting any issues that may affect the workplace.

This position requires discipline, attention to detail, and a strong sense of responsibility.


Key Performance Areas and Responsibilities

General Cleaning of Office Facilities

You will perform general cleaning duties in offices and other work areas. This includes dusting furniture, cleaning desks, wiping surfaces, and ensuring workspaces remain neat and presentable.

Cleaning and Maintaining Designated Areas

You will clean, stock, and supply designated facility areas. This includes bathrooms, kitchens, corridors, meeting rooms, and other shared spaces.

Daily Cleaning Tasks

Your daily duties will include sweeping, vacuuming, mopping floors, disinfecting surfaces, and removing dirt and germs to maintain hygiene standards.

Waste Removal and Disposal

You will be responsible for emptying bins and disposing of trash from offices and designated areas in the correct manner.

Deep Cleaning and Detailed Tasks

From time to time, you will carry out deep cleaning duties. These may include polishing floors, stripping surfaces, washing walls, or handling detailed cleaning projects.

Reporting Maintenance Issues

If you notice any damages, safety risks, or repairs needed, you must report these to management. This helps prevent accidents and keeps the facility in good condition.

Stock Control of Cleaning Supplies

You will help stock and maintain supply rooms, ensuring cleaning materials, chemicals, and equipment are available and stored safely.

Special Cleaning Projects

You may be required to assist with heavy cleaning tasks or special ad-hoc projects, depending on operational needs.

SHEQ and Worker Safety Compliance

You must follow all SHEQ rules, including Behaviour-Based Safety (BBS). Worker safety is a priority, and all tasks must be completed using safe working practices.


Knowledge and Skills Required

To perform well in this role, you should have the following knowledge and skills:

Cleaning Equipment and Machinery

You must be able to handle heavy cleaning equipment and machinery such as polishing machines and stripping machines.

Cleaning Chemicals and Supplies

You should understand how to use cleaning chemicals safely and correctly to avoid damage or injury.

Material Safety Data Sheets

Basic knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) is important to ensure safe handling of chemicals.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

To qualify for this Cleaner position, you must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Grade 10 qualification
  • Basic reading and writing skills
  • Grade 12 / Matric will be an added advantage
  • Proven experience in a similar cleaning role
  • At least 2 years of cleaning experience
  • Ability to use polishing and stripping machines

Experience in a professional or industrial cleaning environment will be beneficial.
