The Opportunity
The mine is seeking a Survey Assistant (B1) to join its team. This role offers a rare chance to be part of a dynamic mining environment, supporting survey operations both underground and on the surface. The successful candidate will report directly to the Surveyor or nominee and play an important role in ensuring the accuracy and safety of all surveying activities.
Minimum Requirements
✅ Education:
- Grade 12 / Standard 10 with Mathematics and/or Science.
- Certificate in Mine Survey.
✅ Experience:
- At least 6 months’ practical mine surveying experience in a metalliferous mine.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Assist with underground survey work, surface profiling, and measuring pits, dumps, and stockpiles.
- Help install pegs and take off-sets to mark survey points accurately.
- Conduct mini risk assessments before each new task.
- Prepare and maintain all survey equipment in good working condition.
- Drill holes for peg installation and act as a guide during offset measurements.
- Measure elevation, distance, and angles using tapes or digital equipment.
- Verify and label samples correctly.
- Monitor beacons to detect subsidence and clear work areas of obstructions.
- Maintain cleanliness, proper stacking, and safe storage of survey tools and storeroom supplies.
- Ensure equipment is assembled, safeguarded, and dismantled correctly before and after use.

- Appointment is subject to passing a medical fitness examination in accordance with the Mine Health and Safety Act 29/1996.
