About the Learnership Programme
This Learner Miner 18.1 Programme is designed for aspiring miners, offering both practical, on-the-job training and formal instruction. The goal is to help learners gain the skills needed to work safely and effectively in a mining environment.

Who Can Apply?
Applicants should either:
- Be a resident of one of the host communities: Bekkersdaal, Zuurberkom, Thusanang, Hillshaven, Westonaria, Poortjie, Simunye, Kalbasfontein, or Jachtfontein.
- OR have successfully completed Grade 12 at a school in one of the above communities.
Minimum Requirements
To be considered, you must have:
- Education: Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or an N3 qualification with at least two languages passed.
- Experience: At least 2 years of experience in a mining operation.
- Medical Fitness: Be declared medically fit for the role and working environment. You will undergo a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre, a Heat Tolerance Screening Test, and any other assessments needed to determine suitability.
Key Competencies Needed
- Follow all mine health and safety rules.
- Complete technical training as set by MQA/DMRE.
- Maintain good performance during training evaluations.
- Take responsibility for your own career growth and ask for feedback when needed.
- Work well with your HRD (Human Resource Development) and training supervisors.
- Follow company policies, rules, and code of conduct.
- Be a team player and contribute positively to group tasks.
- Uphold South Deep values: Safety, Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Innovation, and Collaborative Delivery.
- Be fluent in English, both spoken and written.
