Minimum Requirements
To qualify for this Department of Health Property Caretaker post, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Education:
- AET Level 4 (Standard 7 or Grade 9 report), or
- Grade 12 with at least 6 months relevant experience as a groundman or handyman
- Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to read and write
- Good communication skills
- Physically fit and able to perform manual labour
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidates will be responsible for maintaining clinic facilities and surroundings, including but not limited to:
- Cleaning and maintaining gardens and lawns at provincial clinics
- Pruning trees seasonally and planting new trees
- Watering plants and applying fertilizers and weed killers
- Cutting and maintaining grass areas
- Keeping parking areas, walkways, and pathways clean and tidy
- Sweeping, raking, and removing refuse daily
- Minor repairs such as fixing broken furniture, toilets, and replacing keys
- Maintaining tools and machinery including lawnmowers and cleaning equipment
- Loading and offloading goods for clinics and District Health Services
- Cleaning gutters, downpipes, and stormwater drains
- Assisting with general cleaning duties when required
- Taking inventory of garden tools and machinery
- Monitoring contractors and reporting issues to the Facility Management Unit
- Reporting infrastructure defects to supervisors
- Verifying and signing off on minor repairs
- Performing any additional duties delegated by the supervisor
