Job Description
Primary Objective
Mediclinic Bethlehem is looking for a Confirmations Clerk to reduce financial risk by obtaining and maintaining authorizations for patient cases through effective coordination and communication with relevant stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
The role of the Confirmations Clerk involves the following duties and responsibilities to be fulfilled:
- Secure initial and ongoing authorizations for identified patients to ensure full claim payments.
- Accurately capture and share patient data with all necessary parties.
- Identify high-risk cases and escalate them to mitigate financial exposure.
- Apply clinical coding standards according to Level 2 guidelines.
- Ensure adherence to confirmation procedures, contractual agreements, and legal requirements using available resources and systems.
Qualifications & Experience
Applicants will be required to meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for this role:
- Grade 12 or equivalent.
- No prior experience required.
- Experience in a clinical setting will be an advantage.
Required Skills & Knowledge
- Understanding of medical aid contracts and requirements.
- Familiarity with patient administration systems (AS400).
- Knowledge of funder contract regulations and compliance.
- Clinical coding proficiency (Level 2).
- Ability to use B2B EMS for authorization tracking and troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Awareness of relevant legal and regulatory frameworks (e.g., Consumer Protection Act, PMB).
- Understanding of patient administration policies, confidentiality, and external case manager protocols.
- Ability to identify financial risks, such as missing authorizations or inadequate Length of Stay (LOS) or Level of Care (LOC) approvals.
