Job Purpose

As a Code 10 Driver Salesman based in Empangeni, you will drive the delivery and sales of bakery products, including bread and confectionery, to traders and retail chain stores. Reporting to the Distribution Manager, you’ll manage customer orders, cash transactions, and new customer acquisition while ensuring excellent service and vehicle hygiene.

Key Responsibilities

  • Vehicle and Dress Duties: Maintain a clean, hygienic vehicle; wear prescribed PPE; complete daily vehicle checklists; report faults or accidents to the Logistics Manager; ensure road safety compliance.
  • Stock and Loading: Verify stock against orders; sign loading sheets; ensure safe loading; inspect stock quality and report issues; assist with loading when needed.
  • Van Assistants: Supervise and train van assistants; ensure their presence and professionalism; report performance issues; foster a positive working relationship.
  • Sales and Customers: Engage customers respectfully; seek opportunities to increase sales; report potential sales areas or customer losses; implement promotions; maintain service levels.
  • Deliveries: Deliver stock per customer orders; manage stock levels to supply all route customers; secure next-day orders; recover crates daily; collect products from other bakeries if needed.
  • Transactional Duties: Safeguard cash and paperwork in vehicle safe; handle invoices, delivery notes, and crate control documents; complete accurate cash-ups; report shortages within 24 hours.
  • Competitor Analysis: Collect competitor sales, customer, and product information to support business strategy.
  • General: Assist in other business areas as needed; comply with Occupational Health and Safety Act standards; report health issues affecting safe driving.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Grade 12/Matric certificate; valid Code 10 Driver’s License with Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years’ driving experience in FMCG, with experience delivering and selling products for cash to existing and new customers.
  • Skills: Ability to read, write, and communicate in English; good numeracy skills.
  • General: Willingness to work weekends, public holidays, overtime, and be on standby for driver absenteeism.
