General Assistants help ensure that every customer leaves satisfied, every delivery is loaded correctly, and the work area is always clean and well-organised. By providing friendly service, managing stock carefully, and supporting store operations, you help improve customer experience and grow the business.
Purpose of the Role
The main goal of this position is to provide outstanding customer service while ensuring the yard and tools department operate efficiently. This includes:
- Loading vehicles correctly and quickly
- Keeping stock neatly stacked and accounted for
- Ensuring a clean, safe, and organised working environment
- Helping customers with product queries and purchases
When these tasks are done well, customer satisfaction increases, repeat sales grow, and the business remains profitable.
Key Responsibilities
General Assistants will be expected to:
- Load customer vehicles and delivery/transfer trucks accurately and on time
- Stack and count stock properly
- Pull stock for transfers when required
- Report stock shortages and breakages
- Maintain cleanliness and housekeeping standards by sweeping and organising work areas
- Provide excellent customer service and basic product knowledge
- Assist with bagging sand, stone, and related materials
- Participate in ongoing stocktakes
- Support other tasks as assigned by supervisors
These responsibilities ensure that operations run smoothly from the yard to the customer.
Requirements to Apply
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
- Matric / Equivalent qualification
- Minimum 1 year experience in a similar role (advantageous)
- Strong customer service skills
- Ability to count stock accurately
- Able to work independently or as part of a team
- Disciplined, motivated, and reliable
- Ability to work under pressure
- Good communication (verbal)
- Physically fit and able to handle manual duties
