Internship Overview
Interns will be based at one of three key ARC:AP locations:
- University of the Western Cape (Western Cape)
- Pretoria (Gauteng)
- Eastern Cape
This is a one-year internship programme, focused on building skills in agricultural and environmental research, rangeland and forage science, animal science, and ecosystem management. You’ll be part of active fieldwork and national-level projects that support South Africa’s biodiversity and food security.
What You’ll Be Doing
As an intern, your role will involve meaningful work—not errands or admin tasks. Expect to take part in:
- Preparing tools, samples, and equipment for field studies
- Collecting and managing data during on-site research activities
- Assisting with storing and organising research information
- Supporting the safe use and handling of equipment
- Contributing to monthly and quarterly research reports
- Helping coordinate project activities across multiple teams
- Following health, safety, and research protocols
- Giving feedback and engaging in project planning sessions
- Participating in research initiatives led by the Range & Forage Sciences team
Who Should Apply?

Minimum Requirements:
- Must have a National Diploma, BSc, Honours, or MSc in one of the following fields:
- Agricultural Management
- Animal Sciences
- Plant Sciences
- Wildlife Management
- Biodiversity Conservation
- Postgraduate qualifications are advantageous but not mandatory.
Additional Skills That Will Strengthen Your Application
- Fieldwork experience in rangelands or biological sciences
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other basic computer tools
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to multitask under pressure and make sound decisions
- Comfortable working in large, collaborative teams
- A Code 8 or 10 driver’s license will be a strong advantage
